Vineyard selection is of the utmost importance to us. Our wines are not only a reflection of those who tend the vineyards, but they also express the qualities inherited from their site-specific locations.
Sangiacomo Vineyard- Sonoma Coast Syrah
Developed in the mid 90’s by the Sangiacomo family in partnership with Ehren Jordan and Neyers Vineyards, this site best expresses the true essence of Syrah. When planting this vineyard the Sangiacomo family looked to the great Syrah growing regions in the Northern Rhone region of France, and used bud wood from three separate red wine vineyards: Cornas, Hermitage and Cóte-Rótie. The twelve-acre southwestern facing vineyard lies in the Petaluma Gap area of the Sonoma Coast AVA. The morning and evening mists of ocean fog and breezy afternoons make this an optimal location for Syrah. The cool climate allows us to leave the fruit on the vines longer without fear of over-ripening. The tiny yields and small thick-skinned clusters are packed full of refreshing acidity and bright fruit, resulting in a true expression of its origin.
“Papi” y “Chula’s” Vineyard- Napa Carneros Pinot Noir
Located in one of the best Pinot growing regions in the world, this vineyard holds a very special spot in our hearts. Owned and farmed by the Ceja family, this very vineyard is where Griselda spent her childhood and where the two of us were married in 2007. Farmed by Griselda’s brother Armando Ceja, this five-acre vineyard is located about a mile north of San Pablo Bay. The close proximity to the bay provides much needed temperate weather necessary for Pinot Noir. Cooling winds and fog at night allow the fruit to maintain its crisp acidity, while temperate days maintain even and balanced ripening. In addition, the vineyard’s shallow clay-loam soil produces a less vigorous vine, which results in a low-level producing crop allowing for a deeper explosion of flavors.
